Pinterest

NAWIC is on Pinterest how cool is this, I was looking for my normal fashion ideas when I thought hey why not check and see if there is anything NAWIC related on here.  Who would have thought that NAWIC had hit Pinterest.  Now I know they are on Facebook and I have seen a few chapters on LinkedIn but of all places for information and just fun pictures of the organization I really didn't think that I would find anything on Pinterest.  Now there are not a lot of pictures or boards on there so if there are any NAWIC members following make sure to pin those pictures!!

Great article about women in construction

This article doesnt so much talk about NAWIC, but it does empower women to stay in the construction industry.  It talks about one womans expereince reaching her goals in the construction field and what had to be done so that she could get a foot hold in the male donimated field.  http://www.nytimes.com/2010/09/19/jobs/19pre.html

Scholarship opportunities

One of the great things that NAWIC offers for women students is scholarship opportunities, here are a list of a few of their scholarships for any women out there going to get their degree in construction.  This organization really is all about helping women succeed in a male dominated world.

American Road and Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA)

ARTBA has 5 different scholarships available: The Highway Worker Memorial Scholarship Program; the annual Young Executive Development Program; the annual Globe Awards Program; the annual Roadway Work Zone Safety Awareness Awards Program and the annual ARTBA Student Paper Competition.

What is NAWIC?

I have a friend who is apart of NAWIC and they are trying to generate new memberships.  I myself am not apart of NAWIC but I find what they do to be pretty amazing and empowering for women.  So I have decided to try and help spread the word on how amazing this group is and what it is that they can do for women in construction.  NAWIC stands for the National Association For Women in Construction.  The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) originally began as women in construction of Fort Worth, Texas.  Sixteen women working in the construction industry founded it in 1953.  Knowing that women represented only a small fraction of the construction industrym the founders organized NAWIC to create a support network.  Women in Construction of Fort Worth was so successful that it gained its national charter in 1955 and became the National Association of Women in Construction.  Today NAWIC provides its members with opportunities for professional development, education, networking, leadership training, public service, and more.
